Katie SteinhoffEnlarge photo

Katie [Steinhoff] was born and raised in the shadow of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Knoxville, Tennessee. On the mountain trails and along the river ways Katie gained an appreciation for the native landscape and flora. She enrolled in the local college horticulture program, but it was not until she participated in Missouri Botanical Garden's summer internship program where she decided to focus her career in public gardens. She completed both Masters and Bachelors degrees in Ornamental Horticulture and Landscape Design from the University of Tennessee.
Over the past decade, some of Katie's horticultural accomplishments include: creating a woody plants identification website for UT's undergraduate curriculum; creating a plant records GIS for the Knoxville Botanical Garden; designing and implementing 2 award-winning discovery division gardens for the Southeastern Flower Show; developing environmental education curriculum and garden programming for Callaway Gardens; designing and implementing several permanent landscapes and floral displays for Callaway Gardens as well as teaching workshops and leading garden tours on the topics of herbs, vegetables, native wildflowers, butterflies, backyard wildlife habitat, carnivorous plants, compost and vermiculture, container gardens, trough gardens, terrariums, holiday wreaths and arrangements, ornamental plant production and display and landscape design.
Katie enjoys collecting plants of all kinds, cooking, visiting gardens, kayaking, geocaching and walking along Springfield's greenway trails with her two beagle friends--Basil and Sage.
